Anne
McClay, Project Coordinator, City of Rolla Public Works Department, uses an
interactive watershed run-off model to demonstrate the dangerous effects
chemicals and pollutants can have on a community’s streams, rivers and lakes.
McClay assisted over 200 students as they used bottled water and spray bottles
to simulate how rain washes such pollutants as oil, antifreeze, fertilizer,
industrial chemicals and yard waste into nearby creeks, streams and other
bodies of water during the annual Rolla
Earth Day Celebration on Friday, April 20 at Missouri S&T’s Havener Center.
McClay
will be using the model at various community events, schools and functions to
teach and educate folks about the harmful effects chemicals and other
pollutants can have on the community’s water quality.
