City employees
provide best
possible service
By Mayor Bill Jenks, III
No sooner do we all begin to shed our winter coats, hats, gloves and ice scrappers for spring-like temperatures, that a Missouri snowstorm shuts down areas schools for two days, and drops 2 ½ inches of snow at our doorstep. The white stuff didn’t last long, but it did provide some beautiful panoramic vistas, as well as some pretty good sledding opportunities at Ber Juan Park while it lasted.
Once again our street crews (who worked around the clock) in the Public Works Department, Police Officers, and Fire and Rescue personnel demonstrated their dedication, and willingness to provide the best possible service throughout the duration of the storm. It wasn’t hard to notice the number of snowplows, salt trucks, graders, patrol cars and first responder vehicles that were active over the last few days as City employees cleared the roads, responded to accidents and attended to emergency situations. Sometimes it’s easy to overlook how much our City employees, from all our departments, provide the Rolla community in terms of sound infrastructure, transportation, safety, beautiful parks, abundant recreational opportunities, environmental services, community development, and peace of mind.
The recent snowstorm illustrates just how crucial the services they provide to all of us are, and how dedicated our employees are to getting the job done, regardless of the weather or the circumstances. The U.S. Post Office has often stated that postal employees will deliver the U.S. mail in any climate, location, or circumstance, and I think the same could be said about Rolla City employees who time and time again demonstrate their ability and willingness to provide a variety of services regardless of the weather, road conditions or degree of danger involved.

Rolla PD to step up
seat belt enforcement
Feb. 24
The Rolla Police Department will be joining efforts with statewide law enforcement Feb. 24 for an aggressive “Click it or Ticket” mobilization to get more motorists to buckle up – and save more lives.
Despite evidence proving the benefits of wearing a seat belt, nearly one in four Missouri motorists are still not making it click. Seven out of ten Missourians killed in traffic crashes are unbuckled.
“Local motorists should be prepared for stepped up Click It or Ticket enforcement,” said Rolla Police Department Sergeant Tim Mayfield. “We’ll be out there to remind you seat belts can – and do – save lives.”
Buckle Up and Arrive Alive. For information on Missouri seatbelt usage, visit www.saveMOlives.com.
