The next Rolla City Council meeting will be held on Monday, Aug. 6 at 6:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers at Rolla City Hall, 901 N. Elm Street.
Rolla City Council meetings are ordinarily held the first and third Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m. except when there is a conflict with an observed holiday.

RPD to crack down
on impaired drivers
during month of August
The Rolla Police Department will be cracking down on impaired drivers by conducting two sobriety checkpoints during the month of August 2012.
Law enforcement efforts will be increased in an endeavor to reduce the deaths and serious injuries caused by impaired drivers. Those caught drinking and driving could lose their license, money, and freedom.

City widens 10th Street
from Hwy. 63 to
Spring Avenue
The City of Rolla Street Department continues a project to widen 10th Street from Hwy. 63 to Spring Avenue. The next phase of the project includes the construction of an additional right turn lane onto Hwy. 63 that will greatly improve traffic flow and safety at this busy intersection.
Caution signs will be posted in the construction area, indicating that this is a work zone, and for motorists to please drive carefully. During this time the City appreciates the assistance and cooperation of the public.

Mom’s Special Day at
SplashZone, Aug. 12
If you haven’t yet made plans for next Sunday, Aug. 12, it is Mom’s Special Day at SplashZone, Rolla’s favorite outdoor water park. On Aug. 12 from noon to 6 p.m., all moms get in free with a child’s admission ($4.50).
SplashZone, which is open seven days a week, is located on 14th Street next to the Ber Juan Tennis Complex and across from The Centre (1200 N. Holloway St.). Hours Monday through Friday are noon to 7 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m.

Budget Workshops
set for Aug. 27 & 29
at Rolla City Hall
The Rolla community is invited to attend a series of City budget workshops scheduled for Monday, Aug. 27 and Wednesday, Aug. 29 beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers at Rolla City Hall (901 North Elm St.).
The budget workshops will provide the Rolla City Council, City staff and members of the community an opportunity to review and discuss the City of Rolla’s 2012-2013 fiscal year budget, which officially begins Oct. 1.
Public hearings to discuss and provide input on the 2012-2013 City budget will be held during the Sept. 5 and Sept. 17 Rolla City Council meetings, which will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers at Rolla City Hall.

International Idol
Talent Competition
auditions, Sept. 6
Do you sing, dance, rap, act, or play a musical instrument? Talented community members (all ages and acts are welcome) are invited to audition for the International Idol competition on Thursday, Sept. 6 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Havener Center, Meramec Room, on the Missouri S&T campus.
The final competition will be held during the 3rd Annual Celebration of Nations event on Saturday, Sept. 29 at the Downtown Bandshell (located at the corner of 9th and Oak Street.) Group and individual prizes will be awarded.

Farmer’s Market
open every Tuesday
The Rolla Downtown Farmer’s Market is open and operating under the new shade structure in the lower parking lot of Rolla City Hall from 7 a.m. until 12-noon each Tuesday throughout the growing season.
The Farmer’s Market is coordinated by Roy Fiscus and Wilma Bingham, and spots are available for vendors to sell their items, but they must be locally grown or made products/produce (Phelps County).
No flea market, yard sale type items will be permitted. All spots are first come, first served. The cost to host a booth is $2 per day, which is given to the organizers the day the vendors are there.
