The City of Rolla Fire & Rescue will
conduct a “National Seat Check” on Saturday, Sept. 22 at Fire Department
Headquarters, located at 1490 E. Tenth Street in Rolla.
Certified child passenger safety technicians
will be on hand from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to check car seats for proper
installation and advise parents and caregivers how to choose the right car
seats and install them properly in their vehicles. Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause
of death for children ages 1 to 13. The event, part of the City of Rolla Fire
& Rescue’s participation in Child Passenger Safety Week (Sept. 16-22), is
free to the public.
There will be a limited number of free
child safety seats available at the event to those who meet guidelines. If you
would like to have your seat checked or need more information on the free car
seat program, please contact Lynette Manley at (573) 364-3989.
The
car seat event is being held in conjunction with the 4th Annual
Healthy Baby Extravaganza, which is being held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at
Greentree Christian Church (located at 800 Greentree Road). The Healthy Baby
Extravaganza is a fun, educational day for parents with young children or who
are expecting a baby or recently had a baby. There will be workshops, vendor
booths, product samples, and door prizes. In addition, the Rolla Police
Department, Phelps County Regional Medical Center Ambulance and the Missouri
State Highway Patrol will be there to offer safety tips to parents on keeping
their kids safe.
The event is sponsored by Phelps-Maries County Health Department, City
of Rolla Fire & Rescue, Prevention Consultants of Missouri, SIDS Resources
Inc., Greentree Christian Church, Phelps County Child Advocacy Network (PCCAN),
Missouri Care – An Aetna Health Plan, and Mercy Clinic-OB/GYN – Dr. Cunningham,
Dr. Harden, Dr. Lungren, and Dr. Ratchford. The event is free and open to the
public. To pre-register and receive a
free sport pack, please call (573) 364-3989 or (573) 458-6030.
