City of Rolla, which was officially incorporated on Jan. 25, 1861, will be celebrating its 150th Birthday on Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2011. To help commemorate and celebrate this important historic milestone in Rolla’s history, the public is invited and encouraged to attend the Rolla Sesquicentennial Kick-Off and 150th Birthday Celebration on Tuesday, Jan. 25 at 5 p.m. at The Centre in the Castelman Lounge (located at 1200 N. Holloway Street in Rolla).
The event will begin at 5 p.m. with a 150th birthday cake and coffee social, followed by a welcome from by Rolla Mayor Bill Jenks, III. Former and present Rolla City Council members and Mayors are invited to attend the event, which will include remarks by Mayor Jenks; an invocation by Gary Teague, Pastor of the Apostolic Pentecostal Church; remarks by Phelps County Commissioner Randy Verkamp; key-note speaker Dr. Donald Ouster, Associate Professor Emeritus, Missouri S&T; recognition of Sesquicentennial Logo Contest winner, Angi Yowell, Graphic Design Instructor, Rolla Technical Institute; and a group photo that will be taken at 6 p.m. to commemorate the historic event.
