Mayor Jenks proclaims Lewy Body Dementia Awareness Day in Rolla

Rolla Mayor Bill Jenks, III proclaimed Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012  “Lewy Body Dementia Awareness Day” at the Sept. 5 Rolla City Council meeting. Mayor Jenks presented the proclamation to Jane Haskell, RHS Board of Education member, (left), and her daughter, Joannie.

Mrs. Haskell’s husband, Coach Dan Haskell, who was a former Rolla High School wrestling coach for numerous years, a 9th Grade football coach at Rolla Jr. High School, and a public educator for 32 years, most of which was in the Rolla Public Schools system, was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia in 2004. A Vietnam Veteran, Coach Haskell was a huge advocate for health and fitness, and he loved running, which he passed onto his daughters.
In an effort to bring more awareness and understanding regarding Lewy Body Dementia, the Haskell family, including Jane and her daughters, Joannie, Ann and Dana, will be hosting the Coach Haskell 5K Walk/Run on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012 beginning at 8 a.m. at the Rolla Junior High Hill.
