Rolla Ctiy Council to hold Public Hearing on possible sale of Forest Service Property

The public is invited to provide comment at the March 18 Rolla City Council meeting on the potential sale of five acres on the southern half of the Forest Service Property (located behind and south of the Rolla Visitor Center off Bridge School Road).

The City acquired the 9.46 acre site, which houses the Rolla Area Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center, from the U.S. Forest Service in 2007 for $511,000. The Department of Natural Resources State Historic Preservation Office has an historical preservation easement on the property, and determined the possible sale of the southern half of the property would have “no adverse effect on the historic fabric of the old Rolla Ranger Station.”

If a sale is determined prudent the proceeds would be used to pay off the note to the federal government and to make improvements to the remaining historic properties in the park.
The City Council meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, March 18 in the Rolla City Hall – Council Chambers (901 N. Elm Street). Comment will be welcomed during the Public Hearing portion of the meeting
For more information, please call John Petersen, Director of Community Development, at 426-6970. To review a map of the potential site to be considered, please visit the City’s Website at www.rollacity.org
