Mtg. set for
Jan. 7, 2013
The next Rolla City Council meeting will be held on Monday, Jan. 7, 2013 at 6:30 p.m. at the Rolla City Hall - Council Chambers, 901 N. Elm Street. City Council meetings are usually held the first and third Monday of the month unless interrupted by an observed holiday.

Rolla Planning
& Zoning Commission
Mtg. set for Jan. 8
The next Rolla Planning & Zoning Commission meeting will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013 at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers at Rolla City Hall, 901 N. Elm Street.
In addition to the approval of the Dec. 11, 2012 Planning and Zoning meeting minutes, there will be a public hearing request to approve changes to Chapter 42,  known as the Planning & Zoning Code, Division 18, Signs, including Section 42-244.1, Definitions, 42-244.2 Exempt Signs, Section 42-244.3 General Sign Provisions, and Section 42-244.9, Non-Conforming Signs.
In addition, under old business, there is a request to vacate portions of a 20-foot utility easement dedicated from Lot #1 of Deer Crossing East Subdivision and a 10 ft. utility easement form Lot #8 in the La Chateau Place Subdivision, and to substitute said utility easement with a replacement 10-foot utility easement also taken from Lot #8, as described herein.
In other business there will be the election of Planning and Zoning Officers for 2013. Current P&Z officers for 2012 are: Paul Stigall, Chairperson; Don Brown, Vice Chair and Robert Anderson, Secretary/Treasurer.

for 2013 Rolla
Municipal Election
Filing for the City of Rolla’s 2013 General Municipal Election, which will be held on April 2, 2013, will continue through Jan. 15, 2013 (5 p.m.).
The positions open for election this year include: one Council Representative for all six wards (two-year term). Persons wishing to file their candidacy for any of the above-listed positions may do so between through Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013 (5 p.m.) in the Rolla City Clerk’s Office at City Hall (901 North Elm Street). Municipal candidates are not charged a filing fee.
Individuals who have filed as of Jan. 2, 2013 include: Rhonda Sue Myers (Ward 1); Gregory M. Sawyer (Ward 2); Michael Gosnell (Ward 3); Susan J. Eudaly (Ward 3); Louis J. Magdits (Ward 4); Mike Samaras (Ward 4); Brian Woolley (Ward 5); Carrolyn Bolin (Ward 5); Fran Mazanec (Ward 6); and Mark W. Walburg (Ward 6).
City Council seats must be filled by candidates with the following qualifications; at least 21 years of age prior to taking office, a citizen of the United States, an inhabitant of the city for one year, and a resident of the ward which he/she is elected for six months at the time of his/her election.

Christmas tree recycling
available at Recycling Center
Go Green’ and recycle your Christmas tree. Christmas trees can be dropped off at the compost site located at the north end of McCutchen Drive just past the Rolla Recycling Center at 2141 Old St. James Road.
The compost site is open Monday thru Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays 7 a.m. to 11a.m. All garland, tinsel, ornaments, stands and plastic bags must be removed from the trees. Trees will be chipped to produce mulch.

If you have a pile of boxes and wrapping paper remaining from the holiday season, remember to RECYLCE! The Rolla Recycling Center accepts most types of wrapping paper and boxes! 
Recycle your boxes and paper in your blue bin at the curb on your scheduled day, or bring it by the Recycling Center anytime. When dropping wrapping paper at the Recycling Center, it should be place in the mixed paper bin. Foil wrap, ribbons, Styrofoam, and other materials should be removed from wrapping and boxes before recycling. Those items should be disposed of in your trash.
