City crews remove sediment from Ber Juan Lake to enhance storm water system and prevent flooding downstream

City crews remove
sediment from
Ber Juan Lake
Members of the City of Rolla’s Public Works Department use a track hoe to scoop out large sediment deposits that have accumulated in Ber Juan Lake next to The Centre (1200 N. Holloway).
The lake, which is part of the City’s storm sewer system, helps control storm water management and prevents flooding downstream.
A sediment trap was designed to catch all the sediment coming downstream before it reaches the lake.
When the trap is full and over-flowing, the lake is drained (about 6 feet) to clean out the sediment. There should not be any impact on residents downstream or on the fish in the lake.
For more information, please call the City's Public Works Dept. at 364-8659.
