Venture Crew installs 500 stormwater inlet markers

Members of the Phelps County Venture Crew #84 volunteer their time and talent working in five different zones and four separate groups to help the City of Rolla’s Public Works Department install over 500 stormwater inlet markers on Saturday, May 12 in the downtown area. Phelps County Venture Crew #84 members Allie Burns, (left) and Elizabeth Johnson, install a red, stainless steel stormwater inlet marker on a curb near 13^th and Pine Streets. The effort was lead by Anne McClay, Project Coordinator, Public Works Department, and several Venture Crew members and advisors, who placed 500 markers on stormwater inlets along the streets from 18th Street to 10^th Street and Hwy. 63 to Forum Drive.

There are over 4,300 stormwater inlets located along 100 miles of streets in the City of Rolla, and this initial effort is the first phase of a multi-year program designed to involve and educate the community regarding the importance of not dumping chemicals, pollutants and yard waste into storm drain inlets.  (Scott Grahl/City of Rolla photo)

The Environmental Protection Agency Region 7 through the Missouri Department of Natural Resources has provided partial funding for this project under Section 319 of the Clean Water Act.
